Position Summary:
Counsels and educates clients on budgeting, credit practices, debt management, and housing issues.? Develops with client and creditors a clear financial management plan of action.? The counselor must first and foremost be a professional in appearance, attitude, and knowledge.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meet with clients, obtaining and reviewing budget information for a thorough assessment of debt and income.
- Educate client regarding all available options, services, and assistance through city, county, state, and/or federal agencies as well as the private industry sector.
- Develop with client a plan of action in line with the information received in the counseling session.
- Obtain complete file information and submit these records promptly according to established procedures.
- Assist with prompt, clear telephone and/or written communications to clients and creditors and maintain a thorough record of client and creditor contact, submitting these records promptly to client file.
- Negotiate and compromise payments on a limited basis when necessary.
- Maintain a willingness to utilize all resources available to increase and improve self-knowledge of money, credit, housing, and law matters.
- Become a Certified Consumer Credit Counselor and Housing Counselor within 12 months of hire by passing the NFCC?s exams and maintain certification requirements via Professional Development Units.
- Educate the credit granting industry, community stakeholders, the private business sector, and the general public through outreach regarding CCCS in order to maintain good client/creditor relationships and community awareness.
- Adhere to agency policies and procedures while contributing suggestions for improvement from own experience.
Requirements:
- AA degree or minimum two years experience in personal credit, collections, business, consumer affairs, or other related fields.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Proficiency in budgeting, money management, housing, and principles of personal finance.
- Demonstrated skill in organization, time management, good judgment, and common sense.
- Computer literate and able to learn a proprietary Windows-based financial counseling software program.
- Self-motivated and willing to constantly learn and improve.
- Professional attitude and appearance.
- Above average attendance performance.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred.?
