Universal StudiosAs part of its 100th Anniversary this year, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will offer re-issues of catalog titles, and a new Out of Africa Blu-ray will arrive in the March wave. Based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Karen Blixen (working under the pseudonym Isak Dinesen), this sweeping romance stars Meryl Streep (Manhattan) as Blixen, who falls in love with a rugged big-game hunter (Robert Redford, The Natural) after moving to East Africa shortly before the First World War.

Director Sydney Pollack's film swept the 1986 Academy Awards Ceremony, receiving eleven Oscar nominations and winning seven - Best Picture, Best Director: Sydney Pollack, Best Art Direction: Stephen Grimes & Josie MacAvin, Best Cinematography: David Watkin, Best Adapted Screenplay: Kurt Luedtke, Best Original Score: John Barry, Best Sound: Chris Jenkins, Gary Alexander, Larry Stensvold, & Peter Handford.

Universal's Out of Africa Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack presents the film in its 1.85:1 original aspect ratio with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. The disc also contains the following supplements.

  • Commentary with Sydney Pollack
  • Song of Africa retrospective featurette
  • Deleted scenes
  • Theatrical trailer
Note: While the technical and supplementary specifications may appear identical to the previous Blu-ray editions, Universal has made two significant changes for this release. The Blu-ray/DVD flipper disc is gone - separate Blu-ray and DVD discs have replaced it - and the studio has also created a brand-new, HD remaster of the main feature.

Out of Africa streets on March 6th, 2012.
